Adult Bible Studies
Updated for November 2009
SUNDAY Morning:
Lessons of the Day: Focuses on Scripture readings for the appointed Sundays of the church year; this is led by John Schinnerer at 9:30AM in the Library. Bring a friend and a Bible.
New Pastor's Study-"The 70": There is a banner hanging over the castle church in Wittenburg, Germany that is entitled the 96th Thesis and reads: "He who won't listen cannot learn." In Luther's house, which is now a great museum, a statement hangs directed toward his followers who were arguing over theology, "Let the minds battle, but keep the fists down." Then there are these words hanging over a doorway: "Begin Anew, Investigate Ideas, Cultivate Tradition, Prepare the Way." While these last words were not carved in a cathedral's narthex, or upon a statue's base but upon the walls of the BMW museum, they are nevertheless words that carry the themes found in the opening books of scripture, the first 70 chapters of the Bible (from Genesis 1 and the account of Creation to Exodus 20 and the giving of the 10 Commandments) are filled with the themes of preparing the way of faith; cultivating the traditions of our fathers; investigating the ideas of the image of God, sin, rebellion, repentance, truth, trust, and grace; and beginning anew as God's redeemed people each day. The 70 will serve as the text ofr our Adult Spiritual Formation in our Sunday morning Pastor's study beginning November 8th in the Choir Room from 9:30-10:30AM. This class will continue through the school year. Don't forget your Bible!
