Bethany Lutheran School Dress Policy
The students of Bethany Lutheran School should give witness to their Christian faith and training in the manner of their dress and conduct. They are to use good judgment in the type of clothing they wear and in their personal grooming. Extremes in style are to be avoided. Hair, clothing, or grooming which are unusual enough to attract attention, or detract from our Christian educational program, will not be permitted. Neither should the student wear any type of shoes or clothing that might be a safety or health hazard.
The Rules:
- Hair must be neat, clean well-groomed, and extremes in style are to be avoided. No hair coloring, dyeing, or bleaching will be allowed.
- Bare feet, flip-flops, clogs, sandals without back straps, plastic shoes, or roller shoes are not to be worn to school. Shoes must be tied at all times. Socks must be worn with all types of shoes.
- Jeans are permitted, but they should have no holes, frayed hems, or writing. All pants must be worn at the waist at all times.
- No questionable writing, inappropriate insignias, or advertising, other than logos) will be allowed on clothing.
- No stretch type, obviously tight clothing will be allowed as outer wear. Stretch pants, if worn to school, must be accompanied by a top that is at or near mid-thigh in length.
- The hem of all shorts or skirts must be at least fingertip length. All shorts and skirts must be worn at the waist.
- No underwear type t-shirts will be permitted as outer wear.
- Shoulder straps on all tops must be at least 4 fingers (the wearer's fingers) wide. No tank tops, tube tops, or tight fitting revealing tops - this means no cleavage - will be permitted as outer wear. All tops must be long enough to be tucked in and reach the waist when the arms are raised above the head.
- No undergarments should ever be visible. Junior high girls must not be braless.
- For both girls and boys large, heavy jewelry, including "dog collars," is not permitted. Earrings may not exceed the size of a quarter.
- Excessive make-up is not permitted.
- Sweat pants or sweat shorts are not permitted in grades 2-8.
- No hats will be worn in any building.
- Since we have a worship service in church on Wednesdays, we strongly encourage that your child(ren) dress accordingly.
All dress code infractions will be dealt with immediately. Three (3) dress code violations may result in a detention. If necessary, the parents will be called to provide proper clothing. Students will be kept out of class until the correction has been made. The teachers have been given the authority to make those judgments and interpretations that become necessary in the application of the dress code. Teachers may modify these rules when a field trip or class activity would need such a change. If the entire school, or several classes are involved, the principal will modify the rules upon recommendation of the teachers. It is our desire that parents will accept responsibility to see that their children come to school properly dressed so that disciplinary action will not have to be taken at school.
